Another Week left on this sale! What's to come?

July 27, 2014, 10:42 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

The current "15% Off HSMAdvisor" sale will run until August 4th.

Which here in Ontario is a statutory holiday.

I am not really sure what we are celebrating, but hey, as long as i get paid for staying at home, i don't care.

Just wanted to thank everyone for great support, for investing into YOUR software and for telling your friends and colleagues about it.

I strongly believe our pricing and conditions are VERY competitive and more and more of you agree with me on that every day. I am not even talking about the part that should You need anything improved, fixed or questions answered, i am always available.

I also wanted to let you in in what is coming regarding HSMAdvisor Speed and Feed software.

  • The next course of action for me will be adding surface finish calculators to the FSWizard page.
I have received a few requests for that, and about to start rolling those out.
  • I will revisit myCut DB page.
Tool database will have filters, that would allow users to only see the tools they need.
You will be able to choose what tool table columns you want to see.
I will add tool manager window that will allow to quickly show which tools need to be ordered. And create a purchase order right on the spot. Which you would be able to either export to excel, Word or just print out right away.
  • I am still bearing the idea of a so-called group knowledge.
I am not going to discuss what exactly i am thinking about. But this, if implemented would radically improve decision-making when it comes to machining.
This last part is going to be the hardest one and involve great deal of plain hard work, so i am going to put it on a back-burner for now.

As you see we have lots more to come. And we are not even on to version 1.0 !

And the best part is, if you pitch in now, you will be able to enjoy all the updates and features i am talking about for free!

Take care.

Have a save work week!

Major User Interface updates in HSMAdvisor 0.77

April 15, 2014, 11:45 am by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

I have received a lot of praise and thanks for the easy to navigate interface in FSWizard:Mobile calculator.

Those collapsable accordion-style sections that carry some information in header portion come in really handy when having to put so much information on one small screen on your Android or Apple device.

Lately I felt the need to do something like that for HSMAdvisor as well. It has been over two ears since I came up with that design. And since then massive amount of features I believe overloaded the visual part of it.

It seemed very crowded and busy looking.

So, knowing that collapsable accordion panels do work, i moved all UI elements into them.

This has somewhat changed the percieved workflow of the program and at a later time I will release a series of videos showing off major hints on how to use my tool efficiently and achive best results.

For now please download the latest update. Take it for a spin and tell me what you think.

My email and forums are always open for questions and suggestions

FSWizard Mobile Now has Drill Point / Countersink Calculator

March 23, 2014, 6:28 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Have just released another update to FSWizard for mobile devices.

Version 1.26 available now for Android and in a week for iOS adds Countersink/ Drillpoint Calculator.
It allwos to enter tool diameter, Tip angle, and a diameter of countersink reqiured.
It outputs Depth required to achive such diameter.

Also Thread size dropdown list was fixed.
It was showing wrong thread sizes when calculator was loaded with thread form other than UNC.

In other news i have spent a whole day trying to upload updated FSWizard to the iTunes appstore.

Every time i make an update for iOS i dread that very thing.
Every time i have to spend anywhere from several hour to several DAYS trying to upload an already finished app.
Sometimes i have to restart my computer, sometimes clean the project , sometimes i need to dance around singing voodoo songs....

Apple, YOU take 30% of my profit, I pay YOU 100$ a year just for the privelege of designing apps for your devices.
Can YOU please make the damn thing work THE first time i try it?

It allows to set the angle of the line and get point positions in polar mode.

Also when you click on any input field, a corresponding dimention lights up on the drawing showing which one you are currently editing.

IOS update will be published a little later.

Website Updates

January 8, 2014, 11:59 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

I have made several changes to the layout of the frontpage.

First of all, annoying sales pitch on top is gone. It used to take to much space.

Second, i added a new side panes to the Support Forums page.
It now shows 10 latest forum topics.

On a side note. Work on FSWizard:Modile update went into really deep waters.
I kind of broke everything needlessly, and now trying to make it better than before.

Will keep you updated!

HSMAdvisor 0.701 Has been released!

December 31, 2013, 2:07 am by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Happy New Year !

First of all i would like to thank everybody for their continuing support and feedback - without you my work would not be this rewarding and fun.
This holiday season sale has been a success and it is only reassuring me that i am moving in the right direction regarding development of this software.

Also 20 days after the very first release of FSWizard for iOS, sales for it and the Android versions have been going very strong. Which means i will be putting even more effort into improving the mobile versions as well.

New things in HSMAdvisor 0.701:

  • Cut and Form taps have been added.
  • Boring Bar has been added to the tool type list
  • Scallop calculator has been added for ballnose type endmills

Updated and fixed things:

  • Effective diameter for tapered endmills (like V-Bits) has been fixed
  • Deflection model for endmills has been improved
  • BallNose endmills are now considered slotting (floor milling) only when their WOC is set equal to the diameter of the tool.
When WOC is not equal to the tip Dia, it is presumed the cutter is milling the wall rather than the floor
  • Some Tool Geometry fields have been moved to a new tab.

Again after this release i will shift my attention back to mobile versions of FSWizard

Sigh, me sad..

November 11, 2013, 11:03 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Today i got another review on my free FSWizard Android app.

It wasnt bad. The guy gave 4 out of 5 stars, but then he added that he would gladly pay 4-6$ and that 18$ for the pro version is beyond reasonable.

I should have shut up.

But i never can.

I replied that the price is what it is, explaided my point of view and thanked him for a good review.

He then changed his rating to just two stars...

And then denied that he initially gave me 4!

Sir. Take your business somwhere else.

Update: guy changed his rating to one star and wrote he does not know what 4-6$ i am talking about.

Friends, if you know a guy named David Alwine, keep away from him. He is an utter lying jerk!

HSMAdvisor Integration with CADCAM

November 1, 2013, 9:53 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

NOTE. THIS INTEGRATION MECHANISM HAS BEEN DEPRECIATED AND REMOVED FROM HSMADVISOR.

PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR MASTERCAM X9 AND MASTERCAM 2017 HOOKS FOR MASTERCAM

One of the most requested features in HSMAdvisor has long been integration with various CAD/CAM solutions available on the market.

There are two possible ways of achieving said task.

First way: using CAD/CAM API to create plugins to enable HSMAdvisor to "talk to" various software packages.
This road could produce the best results, however implementing it would be laborous and results not always very convinient to use.
Also developer(me) would have to create plugins for many dozens of cad/cam software packages. Muliply that by the fact that with each CADCAM release, a new version of plugin would need to be produced, tested and debugged. This work is for a whole software department and would call for a product far more expensive than what a lot of my customers could afford.

Second way: Grab tool, speed and feed data directly from the CAD/CAM window, process it and then update required information when the calculation is done.
This solution is easyer to implement and could prove to be the most convinient for user as well.

Need i tell you that i have chosen to go the easy way?

Without further delay let me introduce the first Speed and Feed calculator that can be integrated with a CAD/CAM solution by a user himself!

This is How it Works

Step One: User launches CAD/CAM solution. We will use MasterCAM x2 in our case.

A toolpath is programmed the usual way, a proper tool is selected and when it is time to enter your speed and feed data you launch HSMAdvisor.

On FSWizard page you first select
